Buy her a perfume

This is "Attica" the largest department store in central Athens. It's an old office building of the '30s covering an entire block, completely renovated and now dedicated exclusively to the gods of shopping.

This photo is from the late stages of the overhaul, hence the crane.

It's amazing how similar it looks with another department store in Tokyo. (See it here)

Uncanny resemblance! Attica is name of an infamous prison in New York. Strikes me as funny to say: "Let's go to Attica to shop." :-)

What is happening now with all these department stores? they're everywhere! Just like mushrooms in a rainy day... Ok it a japanese clon... you were right :)

Attica is the name of the whole greater Athens region. It's an ancient name and "Attica" is the english version of the word.

Dsole, it's not a clone. It's just that Modernism in the '30s was a global trend.

I like it. 30s is a good look unlike some of the awful buildings that were built here and are still being built here..
I love that creamy pink colour too, so much more restful than white.

Nice shoot!

What a coincidence! The design is like the one in my blog.

If the building is completed and the department is open, could you take the inside and post it??

Have a nice weekend!

It seems that department stores are making a bit of a comeback. Thanks for encouraging shoppers to spoil us women with perfume!

That is a very nice building. I like the idea to be converted to a department store. Frankly, I do not like to shop at modern buildings that all look the same and the big malls.

Can' wait to visit this store. I well remember old fashioned department stores in Athens when I lived there in the seventies.

This is only part of the story. The name of the building, which is actually not a single building but 9 in total (it took them about 20 years to build all 9 of them) is not Attica. It is CityLink. Attica is indeed the name of the department store, just one of CityLink's tenants. CityLink also hosts 3 theaters (Pallas, the finest in the Balkans area, Small Pallas and Aliki), boutiques, cafes, restaurants, a members Gym, plus the headquarters of Pireaus Group, the company that undertook the huge project of its renovation.
Thanks
